G/L Entry Matching
Wichtig
The G/L Entry Matching feature is only available starting from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2 (BC 27) due to the availability of the Review General Ledger Entries extension.
Please check if an update is available to use this feature.
G/L entry matching is an important process in bank account reconciliation, in which bank transactions are automatically linked and reconciled (reviewed) with the corresponding entries of a general ledger account in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This feature allows you to efficiently match bank transactions and improve the accuracy of reconciliation, even when no direct customer or vendor entries are available for matching.
Good to know
The G/L entry matching feature is only available for general ledger accounts that have a Review Policy defined. This policy determines which criteria are used for matching bank transactions to G/L entries to ensure accurate and consistent matching.
For more information on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central standard, see the official documentation from Microsoft.
The following extensions for G/L entry matching are provided by 365 business Banking:
Automatic G/L entry matching
Manually apply G/L entries
Setup
G/L entry matching is configured via the Payment Application Settings. The following settings can be configured:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Enable matching for G/L entries | Specifies whether automatic matching for G/L entries should be enabled. |
| Show G/L entries on "Apply Manually" page | Specifies whether G/L entries are displayed on the "Apply Manually" page. |
Important
G/L entry matching, unlike matching for customers, vendors, and employees, does not use related party matching.
Therefore, it is especially important to carefully define the matching criteria in the Payment Application Settings to ensure that bank transactions are correctly matched to the corresponding G/L entries.
For automatic matching, you must additionally define the fields in the Payment Application Fields section that should be used for matching bank transactions to G/L entries (e.g., Document No., External Document No.). To do this, select the corresponding fields from the G/L Entry table that are used as reference numbers in bank transactions and should be considered in the matching.
Automatic G/L Entry Matching
Important
Automatic G/L entry matching is currently in preview and may in some cases lead to inaccurate matches. It is recommended to carefully review the automatically matched G/L entries before posting the bank account reconciliation.
During automatic G/L entry matching, bank transactions are linked to the corresponding G/L entries based on the defined payment application fields in the Payment Application Settings. The matching follows the same logic as matching for customers and vendors, but without taking the related party into account. All unreviewed (i.e., open) G/L entries that meet the defined criteria are considered, and the bank transaction is linked to the best-matching G/L entry.
Manually Apply G/L Entries
In addition to automatic G/L entry matching, you also have the option to manually apply G/L entries. On the Apply Manually page, you can select the corresponding G/L entries and link them to bank transactions to optimize the matching and ensure that bank transactions are correctly assigned to the corresponding G/L entries.
Review Entries
The Review Entries feature is a feature from the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central standard that allows you to manually review and apply G/L entries. This feature enables open entry management for general ledger accounts.
Good to know
For more information, see the official documentation from Microsoft.
By applying G/L entries to bank transactions, the Review Entries feature is automatically executed and the applied G/L entries are marked as reviewed in accordance with the matched amounts. An additional manual review of the G/L entries is not required.
