Migration to TLS 1.2
Planned security change
From December 1, 2026, encrypted communication between 365 business Print Agent and our cloud services will require TLS 1.2 as the minimum standard.
Key information
- No changes are normally required on a current and supported Windows system.
- Older or unsupported systems may no longer be able to connect to our cloud services after the migration.
- Proxy servers, firewalls and TLS inspection systems must also support TLS 1.2.
Why is this change necessary?
TLS protects the data transmitted between the Print Agent and our cloud services. The older TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 versions are considered obsolete and no longer meet current security requirements. TLS 1.2 uses more modern and secure encryption mechanisms and is recommended as a minimum standard by Microsoft and other technology providers.
Supported Windows systems
The current 365 business Print Agent supports the following 64-bit systems:
- current Windows 11 versions supported by Microsoft
- a supported Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC release
- Windows Server 2016 or later
Windows Server 2016 Support
As Microsoft Extended Support for Windows Server 2016 ends on January 12, 2027, we recommend using Windows Server 2019 or later.
The following systems in particular are not supported:
- Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
- regular Windows 10 releases that are no longer supported by Microsoft
- Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2 and earlier versions
What do you need to check?
- Make sure that the Print Agent is running on a supported Windows operating system.
- Install all current Windows updates.
- Make sure that TLS 1.2 has not been disabled by local policies.
- Verify TLS 1.2 support for intermediary proxy servers, firewalls and TLS inspection systems.
- Use a current version of 365 business Print Agent.
Check the installed Windows version
Press Windows key + R, enter winver, and press Enter. The window displays the Windows version and operating system build number.
What happens if the environment is not updated?
If any participating system supports only TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1, it will no longer be able to establish a secure connection to our cloud services after the migration. Cloud-based Print Agent features then become unavailable.
