Renew PSD2 consent
Under PSD2, banks regularly require renewed consent. This page describes how to renew it in 365 business Banking, including for automated retrieval.
Applies to: PSD2/XS2A via finAPI
Why consent expires
By signing in to the web form, you consent to finAPI reading your accounts. Under PSD2 rules, this consent is not unlimited: after a period set by your bank, the bank requires strong customer authentication again, that is, sign-in and TAN. This is a requirement of the bank and the legislator, not a setting in Business Central.
finAPI contacts you through the Email Address and Phone Number of the bank access when a bank requires renewed consent. Keep both up to date. See Banking setup.
Renew consent
- In the payment reconciliation journal or in the list of payment reconciliation journals, choose Retrieve Bank Transactions manually, not via the job queue.
- If the bank requires renewed consent, Business Central opens your bank's web form.
- Sign in and confirm with a TAN.
Retrieval then runs again, including automated retrieval.
Automated retrieval
A retrieval from the job queue cannot open a web form. When consent expires, automated retrieval does not run until someone retrieves manually once and signs in. The job queue entry then reports "Updating the bank connection requires the user to authenticate again. …". Therefore, check the job queue entries when no new transactions arrive. See Automate retrieval.
Personal bank access
For a personal bank access, the person renews their consent themselves: on the Personal Bank Accesses page with Reconnect or on their card with Authenticate.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause and remedy |
|---|---|
| No web form opens | The browser blocks pop-ups. Allow pop-ups for Business Central. |
| Sign-in succeeds, but retrieval still asks for authentication | A different account or access was chosen in the web form. Sign in with the access the account is connected with. |
