Address validation and address prediction

This page explains the difference between address validation and address prediction and how the two features work together.

Difference

Address validation compares an already entered address with a validation service as soon as address fields of an existing record change, and completes or corrects it if needed. For more information, see How address validation works.

Address prediction is integrated directly into the Name and Address fields in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: while you type, it suggests matching addresses or companies for you to select. For more information, see Address prediction.

How they work together

When you select a suggestion from address prediction, 365 business Address Validation applies the fields of the suggestion, setting Country/Region Code first and the remaining address fields afterward. This address is not additionally checked by the address validation service; instead, it is stored directly with the status Validated in the address directory.

No duplicate check

Because a result taken from address prediction already counts as checked, a later change to this address only triggers a new automatic check if you then manually change the suggested values.

License

Address validation and address prediction are two separate license features, each with its own trial period. For which licensing models are available for each feature, see Get started.
