# Bank connection via EBICS

EBICS connects 365 business Banking directly to your bank: statements, payments and direct debits without a TAN, also in the background.

EBICS (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard) is the standard for corporate payments in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. Business Central identifies itself with its own key pair and signs payments electronically. No web form and no TAN are required.

## At a glance

| | |
|---|---|
| Value in the field | *SEPA Bank Account (EBICS)*: as account information service, payment initiation service or both |
| Requirement | EBICS contract with your bank, *EBICS Connection* license |
| Bank statements | camt.053; with pending entries also camt.052 |
| Payments | pain.001 (SEPA credit transfer, also instant transfer; foreign credit transfer and Euro urgent credit transfer, each if your bank offers the order), pain.008 (direct debit) |
| Feedback | bank status report (pain.002) per submission |
| Four-eyes principle | Distributed Electronic Signature (VEU) in the banking program |
| Not possible | standing orders, retrieval for a period |

## Steps to the first payment

1. **[Set up an EBICS participant](participant.mdx)**: enter the details from the contract, create keys, send the initialization letter to the bank, download the bank keys. Because of the letter, this step takes a few working days.
2. **[Connect a bank account via EBICS](connect.mdx)**: with the **Connect Bank Account** wizard. Business Central asks your bank which accounts the participant may use.
3. **[Retrieve bank statements](statements.mdx)**: as with any bank account, with **Retrieve Bank Transactions**.
4. **[Make payments](payments.mdx)**: **Carry Out Payment** submits the file with your signature, and the bank reports the processing result back. SEPA and foreign payments in one journal are sent to the bank as two orders.

If you already use EBICS with SFirm, Profi cash, StarMoney or your bank's portal, first read [Switch from another EBICS program](migration.mdx).

## Pros and cons

| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Payments without a TAN, also in the background, for example at night or from a job | Setup takes a few days (initialization letter) |
| Foreign credit transfers (AXZ/XCT) and Euro urgent credit transfers (CCU/XCT-URG) if your contract includes them | Your EBICS contract determines which orders are possible |
| Limits of the EBICS contract instead of the online banking daily limit | Requires an EBICS contract, charged by many banks |
| Status report per submission with the bank's processing result | A bank statement is delivered only once |
| Your bank's four-eyes principle (VEU) | No standing orders |
| No service provider between you and your bank | Additional *EBICS Connection* license |

<Callout type="tip" title="Combination with finAPI">
Many companies continue to retrieve their accounts via finAPI and pay via EBICS. This removes the daily limit while statement retrieval remains unchanged. See [Combine banking services](../mixed-operation.mdx).
</Callout>

<Callout type="info" title="Also needed for verification of payee">
Even if you work exclusively via EBICS, verification of payee requires the [company bank access](../../setup/banking-setup.mdx).
